The New Expedia “Share Your Story” App

Want to transform yourself into a travel videographer? There’s an app for that!

Thanks to the folks on Twitter’s #expediachat, today I learned about Expedia’s new travel app, called “Share Your Story.”

According to Expedia’s Vice President and GM John Morrey, the app “allows travelers to take a series of standalone pictures and transform them into a narrative, a moving video of the experience, integrated with Google maps.”

So imagine: instead of taking pictures and uploading the photos into a Facebook album, you can create a mini-movie of your experience and share it via Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and other social media sites.  I personally love this idea, because on top of enriching your own travel experience and producing vivid, personalized memories of your adventures, it allows you to better experience others’ travels, which is great for finding inspiration and bonding with your fellow wanderers.

To get started: Visit www.findyours.com. The app will prompt you with questions about your trip, like where it started/ended, and allow you to give up to five locations you visited along the way. Google’s technology will insert graphics from those destinations into the video. You can then name your story, upload up to 10 images from your Facebook and Instagram albums, and even choose filters and music. You can then share the story on social media. (PS the music lover in me is dying to make some awesome destination soundtracks).

I’m excited to try this bad boy out and see if there’s not a Martin Scorcese lurking somewhere in this technologically stunted brain of mine.
